I earned my doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Ohio State University in 1987. I am licensed as a Psychologist in the States of California and Missouri. I currently have a part-time private practice in Columbia, Missouri at the Center for Family and Individual Counseling (see details under Practice Link). I am also an Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri (see Academic Link). In this role, I advise Masters and Ph.D. students, conduct research, and teach classes. I have taught a variety of courses including Wellness Management for School Personnel, Counseling Psychology Practicum, and Feminist Therapy. In addition to the basic credentials required for the practice of psychology, I have won numerous awards and honors. In 2006, I was honored to be selected as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA). Fellow status is given to APA members who demonstrate unusual and outstanding contributions in the field of psychology. Fellow status requires that a person's work has had a national impact on the field of psychology. I have also won several teaching awards at the University of Missouri. I have also contributed to both to the University of Missouri and to the Profession of Psychology through a variety of service roles. For example, at the University of Missouri, I am currently serving as a member of the three-person Grievance Resolution Panel and have previously served as the Investigating Officer for Academic Grievances, as well as the Training Director for the Counseling Psychology Program. I have also served as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Program, the main training council for Counseling Psychology. I am also an avid believer in making psychological knowledge readily available to the public. Thus, I have been frequently quoted in the media on a variety of topics, including eating and body image issues, stress management, relationships, and sexuality.
